Relocating can be one of the most stressful events of your life. However, proper
planning and organization will go a long way in alleviating any potential headaches.
Young Moving & Storage has prepared a list of move preparation tips that will help
smooth the transition for you and your family.
Forwarding addresses and change of service
Make sure that you notify your utility providers, insurance agent, health care provider,
financial institution, and any other service provider of your forwarding address.
Cancel newspaper/magazine subscriptions and cable service. Notify the Postmaster
of your new or temporary address.
Organize important documents
Gather any personal records you will need for your new employer, healthcare provider,
and financial institution. These should be kept in a secure and accessible place
(a car or spare bedroom) away from items that are to be moved. Young Moving & Storage
recommends that you clearly label these items as not to be moved.
Prepare appliances
Unplug your refrigerator/freezer at least 24 hours prior to your move. Clean the
inside with white vinegar and leave the doors open for air drying. Taping either
a box of baking soda or nylon sock with unused coffee grounds inside your appliance
will help absorb any remaining moisture and prevent any unwanted, musty odors. Arrange
for the servicing of your appliances.
Coordinate utility disconnection/connection
Arrange for the disconnection of utilities at origin and connection of utilities
at your new home. Young Moving & Storage recommends that your phone should be connected
on loading day and that your phone service be available on your delivery day so
that your Move Coordinator will be able to reach you.
Dispose of perishable and hazardous items
Finish up any frozen goods, canned items or other perishable household items as
these cannot be transported. Dispose of flammable and corrosive items. If a lawn
mower or other machinery is being transported make sure that it is emptied of fuel.
Your Move Coordinator will be happy to provide you with a list of hazardous, non-allowable
items.
Arrange transportation of pets
Keep health certificates and inoculation documentation with items that are labeled
not to be moved. If your pet will be transported in a crate, please make sure that
it is labeled not to be moved.

I want to send a note of appreciation and thanks for the careful and professional
service we received from your team: Mr. Gregg Kittrell, John and Otis. They were
a pleasure to work with and made the loading for surface shipment a positive one
for me and my family.
